Team Spain has been forced to make a change to its lineup for the Motocross of Nations in Ernée. Ruben Fernandez will be unable to compete due to the injury he sustained in Turkey and will be replaced by newly crowned EMX250 champion Francisco García.
Fernandez suffered a heavy crash during the Grand Prix of Turkey. It has now been confirmed that the Spaniard will require surgery and will therefore not recover in time for the Motocross of Nations, which will be held from October 2 to 4 in Ernée, France.
The Spanish motorcycle federation RFME has quickly found a replacement. Francisco García will take the vacant spot in the team. García was crowned European champion in the EMX250 class this season and will once again have the opportunity to represent his country. He was also part of Spain’s MXoN team last year.
García is looking forward to his second appearance in the prestigious nations event.
Francisco García:
“I am extremely happy and motivated to ride the Nations for the second time. It is a big dream for every rider. This year we have a strong team. I have the experience from last year and I am sure I can put in a better performance. We are one of the favorite teams, and that motivates me enormously. I will fight for the Spanish flag until the final lap.”
According to team manager Paco Rico, Spain can head to Ernée with an exceptionally strong lineup this year. The team could even consist of three national champions.
For Fernandez, the injury is meanwhile a major setback. In addition to missing the final two Grands Prix of the MXGP season in China and Australia, he will now also definitely miss the Motocross of Nations.
