The EMX250 championship returned to Lativa after a week’s break in their series, with Gyan and Oriol battling on the sandy circuit of Kegums.
Gyan showed the consistency we have been working towards throughout the weekend. He qualified 7th in timed practice and grabbed the holeshot in race one. He led the first 4 laps but had tightened up so dropped back to second where he would remain for most of the race before finishing in a well-deserved third. Race two Gyan again secured the holeshot and rode a very good race for another third-place finish. He finished second overall for the weekend, having back-to-back podiums.
Oriol qualified 13 in timed practice and bettered this to 8th in the qualifying race. He had a good start in race one and was running in 4th before he crashed, a small issue with his goggles and another crash meant he finished in 14th. Race two he managed a safe start and was within the top 10, he rode a consistent race to finish 8th for 11th overall.
Oriol: “Happy with my weekend, because again we saw the potential but still not the result we wanted like in France but the p11 overall position. First moto I was 4th but then crashed, then had some problems with my goggles and crashed again, so little bit chaotic – just one of those races. Race two had a normal start and without mistakes and consistent laps could make a good P8 with some good speed and the gap to the front wasn’t actually that much. So this is a positive thing. Every weekend I see some positives and some things that I can work on and make better. Excited for the next races, looks like every weekend | get to learn something and aiming for better results. I train hard and like always the team work hard and thanks to them for all the effort. We keep going.”
Gyan: “Another solid weekend in the books. Very happy with my consistency with 4 top 3 finishes in a row. P2 overall. Not satisfied with my riding in the races but just need to get the nerves out the way and not show 90% but my full potential but were getting closer!! Thanks to my team and everybody around!!”
Team Manager Shaun Simpson: “Great weekend of Lativa, very good to see Gyan keep the consistency with two top three results, two holeshots and another second overall on the podium. I think Gyan can trust himself now that he can get holeshots and that he has the speed to fight for podiums all weekend. I think he needs to work a little bit on his mindset when he is leading the race, he’s not led a race for a while so I think he tightened up a little bit there but that will come. Looking very positive for the last 5 EMX rounds of this season now that we feel we have figured a few things out. Oriol is riding fantastic, really good speed and fitness, we just need to work on his starts. I think if we can clean his starts up and get him away in a good position in the first few laps then we definitely can fight for podiums towards the end of the season. All exciting stuff, managed to dodge the rain in Latvia during Saturday and Sunday, track was in decent Shape. Quite hard to pass but both riders done really well and I’m happy with how the whole team worked together, working on some details for the riders and just trying to improve things every week. We have made a plan for this week, try and improve some things with the starts for Oriol and get ourselves ready for the third round of the British Championship at Blaxhall Pits this weekend. So positive times in the last couple weeks and definitely looking forward to the next bunch of races to continue showing the riders form out on track. Thanks to all the sponsors, Simon, KTM and everyone else involved including the crew. I think we are starting to get the results we deserve and that’s all down to everyone’s hard work so thanks!”
