Bruce battles the elements in Portugal

After getting the all clear Wednesday, we drove out to Portugal to be treated by pleasant weather. Qualifying went well, Bobby topped the sheet mostof the session but was pipped by 0.2 of a second at the end, so took to the gate with 2nd position.

Race one, the good conditions were short-lived as the heavens opened up, Bobby was in 4th before a mistake cross rutting the front wheel threw him over the bars and down a steep bank. With it taking so long to get back on the bike, Bobby DNF’d the first race.

A good start in race 2 saw the ’79’ in third position, and after pushing into 2nd a small mistake sent him back to 8th. Where he hasn’t been training as much, he played it safe and secured some points bringing home 11th and 16th overall.

Bobby Bruce (EMX250)

Qualifying – 2nd
Race 1 – 38th
Race 2 – 11th
Overall – 16th

Next up is Lugo, in Spain, this weekend.

Bobby Bruce – EMX250:
” The weekend started off really well, had a good feeling with the bike and track and managed to stick the 2nd fastest time in time practice. The rain started to come down pretty badly, which made a really challenging race track. Unfortunately, I crashed out of the first moto whilst running comfortably in 3rd. 2nd moto I grabbed a really good start and again made a stupid mistake whilst inside the top 3 but salvaged an 11th. Definitely not the results I hoped for after a promising Saturday morning, but the good thing is I get another chance this weekend in Spain.”

Steve Dixon – Team Manager:
“After Switzerland, a strong course of antibiotics left Bobby feeling okay to ride, so he had a little run out on Wednesday. We decided to give Portugal a go, Bobby wants to race his way back to fitness. His speed is good, but the conditions this weekend made it extra tough. Overall, I’m happy with his speed and starts, I’m thankful that we have great product sponsors – The Kawasaki didn’t miss a beat in the gruelling conditions.”
