MXGP RIDERS DISCOVER THE HEART OF ÁGUEDA BEFORE THE MXGP OF PORTUGAL

Ahead of a packed weekend of racing at the Crossódromo Internacional de Águeda, the 2026 MXGP of Portugal took a step beyond the track on Friday afternoon as motocross stars and media were invited to discover the city that hosts the unmissable Portuguese GP for the FIM Motocross World Championship.

Departing from the International Motocross Track, the group made their way to the Rio Interpretation Centre, a remarkable space housed in the former Canoeing Centre on the banks of the Águeda River, dedicated to the natural and cultural heritage of the region, featuring live freshwater aquariums and interactive exhibitions on local biodiversity and river traditions. Then they explored by city train the famous streets of Águeda’s city centre,  a renowned for its cascades of colourful umbrellas suspended overhead, turning every corner into a vibrant open-air gallery.

The afternoon continued with a tasting of traditional local produce, giving riders and journalists alike a flavour of the rich culinary heritage of the Águeda region.

Among those in attendance were MXGP and MX2 World Championship competitors, Honda HRC Petronas’ Ruben Fernandez, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Simon Längenfelder, Team Honda Motoblouz SR Motul‘s Kevin Horgmo, Janis and Karlis Reisulis from Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2, Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Liam Everts , Ferruccio Zanchi and Simone Mancini from Beddini Racing Ducati Factory, Francisco Garcia and Jake Cannon from Venum BUD RACING Kawasaki alongside Portuguese riders competing in the EMX classes this weekend: Duarte Pinto and Bernardo Pinto (EMX125), and Gonçalo Cardoso and Vasco Salgado (EMX250). Riders were also joined by Agueda’s Urban Planning Councillor, Carlos Filipe which further cement the link between the Agueda region and the international race.
