The Van Venrooy KTM team headed to Agueda, Portugal, in high spirits for round seven of the MX2 World Championship. The scenic Portuguese circuit is always a favourite on the calendar, and while conditions started dry, that quickly changed as heavy rain turned the track into a real test of endurance.
What followed was a brutal weekend of racing, with riders pushed to their limits in the mud. Unfortunately, things didn’t start well for Cas Valk in the opening moto. After getting stuck on track, Valk was forced to retire from the race, resulting in a disappointing DNF.
However, the team didn’t leave Portugal empty-handed. Valk bounced back brilliantly in the second moto, putting in a determined ride to secure an impressive sixth-place finish in the difficult conditions. Despite the DNF in race one, which limited him to thirteenth overall, the second moto performance underlined the strong pace and potential within the team.
Next up is round eight of the MX2 World Championship in Lugo, Spain, this coming weekend. In addition to the MX2 action, Lynn Valk will also be back in action for the second round of the Women’s Motocross World Championship (WMX). The team will be hoping for more consistent weather as they look to build on the positives from Portugal.
Cas Valk (13th overall): Happy to finish a difficult weekend with a good second moto, conditions were brutal so a big thanks to the team and my mechanic to make sure the bike was ready to go. See you all in Spain.
