Farleigh Castle Vets MX – News

It is full throttle ahead for the OG vets’ race—Farleigh Castle Vets MX, held on its traditional mid-September date (12th -15th). The names are rolling in thick and fast to take to the line at the historic circuit, a true throwback to that golden era when many of us stood on the fencing, cheering on our MX heroes.

Lining up in the team race is team Munster Northern Ireland. They have been a staple at the Farleigh Castle MX Event for many years. Spearheaded by team captain Garry Sullivan, who also takes on the role of Team Manager & rider in 2024.  Sullivan has been a fan of the event for numerous years and is keen to make the trip across the Irish Sea for the event. He has competed at various levels since 1986 and boasts several class wins. He took 3rd overall twice in the Irish Vets class in 2018 and 2019. Sullivan will be looking forward to mounting his CR500 (rumour has it, it could be the ex-world champ David Thorpe Honda, which he has owned for over 20 years) sporting the number 36 plate.

James Sinnott is no stranger to vets’ events; having been the team mechanic for Team Munster in previous years, he geared up for VMXdN Foxhill in 2023 and has the racing bug and is joining the team to compete at Farleigh Castle Vets MX 2024. Sinnott is MCUI/Irish GT and MX Champion and will be onboard a CR250 with the number 34 on the plate.

The third member of the squad is Glenn James. James is no stranger to the Farleigh Castle, having done many laps around the circuit over the years. This year, he will have the number 35 plate on his KTM 250, lining up alongside Sullivan, Sinnott, and the other 57 riders on the gate.

For 2024, the new owners (Shaun Copeman, Dave King and DocWob) are working hard to restore the event back to its former glory. This has been hugely supported by rider entries, industry, trade and the fans. They have already announced an all-new catering offering from The Sweet Potato Spirit Co and Highstreet retailer The Range/Wilko, will also be on site with a pop-up shop with everything you need or want for the race weekend, alongside title sponsor Concept, who have a rich history in motocross.

The gate opens to the three-day event at midday on Thursday, September 12th; Friday is scrutineering and sign-on, with plenty of time to walk the track and catch up with old friends and new faces (the beer tent will be open for business, of course). Racing commences over the weekend of Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th. To this day, it remains the only event on the UK motocross calendar with sixty 2-strokes on the line in each class; just imagine the sight, sound and smell of that, just the thought of it is enough to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
