The first opportunity to defend a title in van de Moosdijk’s career

Full focus on the ADAC MX Masters with the Kosak Racing Team
Munich. Ten years after Glenn Coldenhoff, Roan van de Moosdijk brought the ADAC MX Masters championship back to the Netherlands, earning widespread recognition. At the same time, it marked the first premier-class rider title for the Kosak Racing Team. In a pre-season interview, van de Moosdijk explains why he continues to rely on the successful combination with the Kosak Racing Team and whether he feels more pressure.
How is the preparation going for the 2026 ADAC MX Masters season?
Roan van de Moosdijk: “Everything is going well. Not much has changed and things have mostly stayed the same. There are a few visual changes—I’m now wearing some new brands like ONE Industries gear, Bell helmets, and Sidi boots. Otherwise, I’ve had a good preparation. It was a bit longer than usual because the season starts later this year. But everything has gone according to plan. I’ve already raced a few pre-season events in the Netherlands and one in Germany to get back into race rhythm.”
Have there been any changes to your preparation or the bike for 2026?
“No, nothing major. I’m still working with my motocross coach Marc de Reuver. I’m also continuing with WP for suspension. The bikes are quite similar to last year anyway. I felt comfortable on the new KTM model right from the start. We didn’t change much on the bike for this season because it worked well last year. I immediately had confidence in the setup the team gave me. The main focus was to spend a lot of hours on the bike. Since there are many sand races this year, we trained a lot in the sand.”
Does being the reigning champion bring more pressure or motivation?
“A bit of both. It motivates me. I’ve only been champion once at this level, when I won the EMX250, but I’ve never had the chance to defend a title before. This will be the first time. Many say it’s harder to defend a title than to win one. I’m curious. I’m just looking forward to fighting for the title again. At the moment, I don’t feel it as extra pressure.”
Marc de Reuver is very experienced. Has he already given advice on how to approach a title defense?
“Honestly, not really yet. Right now, we’re mainly focused on riding and getting in a lot of training hours. It’s about small details on the bike, not specifically about the championship yet. I’m sure we’ll talk about it, but maybe it’s better not to make it too big. At the moment, it’s just about doing laps.”
Will the ADAC MX Masters remain the main focus, or are you planning to race other championships as well?
“The ADAC MX Masters is definitely the main series, also because I ride for a German team. In addition, I’ll compete in a few MXGP races, though fewer than last year. I’m also planning to enter some standalone races. I’d like to race two or three rounds of the Dutch Masters as well, since I haven’t competed in that series for two or three years. It’s nice to race again in my home country, the Netherlands. But ADAC remains the main goal.”

Was your ADAC title noticed and appreciated in the Netherlands?
“Yes, definitely—and personally, the title means a lot to me. Besides the world championship, the ADAC MX Masters is, in my opinion, one of the biggest series in Europe. Many Dutch riders have competed there in the past, and a lot of fans from the Netherlands follow the livestreams. The reactions were very positive. Glenn Coldenhoff was the last Dutch rider to win the title ten years ago. So yes, the title carries a lot of weight and attention in the Netherlands.”
This is now your third year with the Kosak Racing Team. Was it the logical decision to stay after winning the title?
“I joined the team in mid-2024, during the season. From the beginning, I felt very comfortable there. I was coming back from an injury and was welcomed very well. The team gave me confidence, and that allowed us to make a big step forward last year and finish the season with the title. That’s why I didn’t want to change anything. I feel at home there. There were no real reasons to go elsewhere.”
What are the biggest strengths of the Kosak Racing Team?
“For me, the family atmosphere is number one. The team works with a lot of heart. It’s not a huge team, but rather a smaller group—that’s what makes it special. The cooperation is very pleasant. For a championship with six or seven events, this setup works very well. The team also gives me a lot of trust and is open to changes on the bike if I want to try something. I really appreciate that.”
Who will be the strongest competitors in the new season?
“I don’t know the full entry list yet, but I expect many familiar names from last year. Max Nagl will definitely be one of the strongest. I have a lot of respect for how long he has been performing at this level. I saw him during the winter, and he looked very strong. Then of course riders like Maximilian Spies, Marcel Stauffer, Noah Ludwig, Tom Koch—those are some of the names that come to mind. Overall, the level is very high.”
Which event are you most looking forward to?
“I would say Tensfeld. It’s a sand track that I really like. Last year, I made a strong comeback there after an injury and even won a race without a rear brake, because it failed right after the start. That makes it special for me, and I’m looking forward to racing there again.”
