2026 marks 40 years since David Thorpe won the British Grand Prix at Hawkstone Park in 1986, and to commemorate this epic performance, the three-time (four if you count a vets championship) FIM 500 world champion, our very own national treasure, David Thorpe, will be at the 2026 VMXdN Hawkstone as guest of honour.
DT will be on hand to sign autographs, and copies of his biography, No Regrets, which will also be available. Incredibly, his 1986 Factory HRC Honda RC500 will be on hand for the weekend, so he can do a parade lap.
Anyone who was at the Shropshire venue in the heady summer of 86 were witness to a performance in front of his partisan British fanbase who filled the circuit. The result put the then 23-year-old Thorpe well on his way to his second world championship, even with his famous crash through the whoop section, all shown live on TV- he stamped his authority on the stacked field that day. It must be up there with the greatest days of his illustrious career.
Hawkstone Park plays host to a whole lot of memories of British motocross, and no doubt even more memories will be created as VMXdN heads to the picturesque venue on the August Bank Holiday weekend – 27th – 30th
With so much planned into the 4-day MX weekend, there is plenty to see before the gate drops on the racing action on Saturday and Sunday. Just a meander through the open paddock will take you hours whilst you catch up with faces from years gone by, grab an autograph from a MX legend or two, and that’s before you start salivating over the epic two-stroke machines at the roll-out Show’N’Shine display.
If you plan to camp, please be quick to secure your camping pass, as spots are limited and selling faster than ever!
