Provisional MXGP Turkey Entry Lists Announced: Herlings Could Secure Sixth World Title

The entry lists for the MXGP of Turkey, which will take place on September 5 and 6 in Afyonkarahisar, have been announced. The seventeenth Grand Prix of the season could be a very special weekend for Jeffrey Herlings. The Dutchman will have his first opportunity in Turkey to become world champion for the sixth time in his career.

Herlings heads to Turkey in sensational form. Following his double victory at his home GP in Arnhem, the Honda HRC PETRONAS rider has extended his lead in the World Championship to 143 points over Romain Febvre. After Turkey, only the Grands Prix of China and Australia remain on the calendar.

The provisional entry list for the MXGP class features 23 riders. Alongside Herlings, fellow Dutchmen Kay de Wolf, Calvin Vlaanderen and Rick Elzinga will also line up behind the starting gate. De Wolf impressed greatly in Arnhem last weekend, putting Herlings under pressure in both motos and finishing second twice.

Lucas Coenen is also on the entry list. The Belgian attempted to make his comeback in Arnhem last weekend, but after the practice sessions, he was forced to withdraw from the Grand Prix due to ongoing hip problems. Jago Geerts is also entered for Belgium.

The MX2 class is also set to deliver plenty of excitement. Championship leader Guillem Farres heads to Turkey with a lead of just 25 points over Sacha Coenen. Camden McLellan moved into third place after his victory in Arnhem and trails Farres by 37 points.

The Netherlands will be represented by regular World Championship riders Kay Karssemakers and Scott Smulders. A total of 18 MX2 riders are provisionally entered.
