The MXGP of Italy in Montevarchi ended in major disappointment for Vencislav Toshev of the De Baets AIT Racing Team. The Bulgarian rider suffered a heavy crash during the EMX250 free practice session and sustained serious back injuries.
Following the accident, Toshev was immediately transferred to a hospital in Florence, Italy, for further examination. There, doctors confirmed that he had fractured two vertebrae in his lower back.
On Saturday evening, Toshev underwent surgery, which was successful. The young Bulgarian has now begun his recovery, and the initial signs are positive.
“Vencislav suffered two fractured vertebrae in his lower back. He underwent surgery on Saturday evening, and everything went well. At the moment, he is recovering. He has feeling throughout his body, which is a positive sign and something we are very happy about,” the team stated.
The injury is a significant setback for Toshev, who was in the middle of his EMX250 campaign. At this stage, it is still unclear how long his recovery will take and when he will be able to return to the starting gate.
The De Baets AIT Racing Team wishes Vencislav a speedy recovery and looks forward to seeing him back on the bike in the future.
