Lucas Coenen won the opening MXGP race under extremely hot conditions. The Belgian grabbed the holeshot and never looked back.
Behind Coenen, Jeffrey Herlings finished second. The Dutchman started the race in third place and set the fastest lap of the race, but he could not prevent the young Belgian from taking victory by a margin of ten seconds. Tim Gajser finished third ahead of Kay de Wolf and Andrea Adamo. Calvin Vlaanderen crossed the finish line in 11th place. For the Belgian riders, Brent Van doninck finished 14th and Jago Geerts also completed the race.
On the opening lap, French rider Thibault Benistant suffered a heavy crash and remained on the track for a considerable time. He is currently at the medical centre at the circuit.
