Jeffrey Herlings has won the first moto in Arco di Trento. The Dutchman had to start the race from outside the top ten but steadily worked his way forward.
When he launched his attack on the top three, he set the fastest lap times lap after lap and fought his way to the front of the field—something that was clearly appreciated by the crowd, who got fully behind him.
Behind a dominant Herlings, Romain Febvre finished second ahead of Tom Vialle, Tim Gajser, and Maxime Renaux. Championship leader Lucas Coenen crashed in the early stages and had to settle for 12th place.
Kay de Wolf made a mistake in the opening laps and dropped to 11th but managed to recover to seventh by the end of the moto. Calvin Vlaanderen finished 14th, Roan van de Moosdijk was 20th—earning the final world championship point—and Rick Elzinga came home in 31st.
From the Belgian contingent, Brent Van Doninck finished 17th and Jago Geerts was flagged off in 25th.
