For 16-year-old Jarne Bervoets from Paal, 2025 represents a year of growth, learning, and maturing within international motocross. His time in the EMX125 class marked another important step toward the European top level, and his cooperation with the MJC Yamaha team played a major role. Jarne looks back on his time with the French squad with nothing but fond memories.
“MJC was a very good team with a great atmosphere,” he says. “Everything was well organised, and I got along with everyone. The collaboration with the Yamaha people, like Thorsten and Alexander, was really top. I definitely felt at home there.”
For a young rider working his way toward the international elite, such an environment is invaluable. It gave Jarne the room to grow, make mistakes, and develop himself both on and off the bike. Unfortunately, after the EMX round in Spain — the season opener — the young Belgian was hit by a bacterial infection that continued to affect him until the summer. As a result, his title ambitions had to be abandoned early in the season.
A New Challenge: Moving Up to EMX250
In 2026, a new and important milestone awaits: the step up to the EMX250 class, the category where riders show whether they are ready for the next level. For Jarne, this doesn’t only mean a new class, but also a new bike and a new team.
“EMX250 is a big step,” he acknowledges. “But so far everything is going well. Next year I really want to show what I can do and try to be as consistent as possible.”
While some riders take a cautious approach during their transition year, Jarne clearly opts for ambition. His focus is fully on the European Championship rounds, but he also wants to gain as much racing experience as possible.
“I want to race as many events as I can, no matter which ones. Everything helps to improve.”
Switching to the YZ250F
Jarne has recently begun training on the Yamaha YZ250F, and the transition seems to suit him well.
“I’ve already started riding the YZ250F and I really like the bike. It’s great to ride, and I think it suits me better than the 125cc.”
That statement reveals confidence both in the equipment and in his own development. The power of the 250cc, combined with Jarne’s smooth riding style, could prove to be a perfect match.
A Rider to Watch
With his grounded mentality, strong work ethic, and a new chapter ahead, 2025 looks set to become an important year for the young Belgian. The foundations have been laid, his confidence is growing, and his motivation is higher than ever.
Jarne is ready to take on the strongest riders in Europe and to show that his name belongs among the future talents of international motocross.
