The gates are about to drop on the 2025 MXGP Academy season — and it all starts in Águeda, Portugal! Set for a weekend of high-impact training and rider development, the first stop of this year’s global program promises to deliver top-tier motocross mentorship in one of Europe’s most iconic MX locations.

Organised in collaboration with Infront Moto Racing, the FIM, and the Portuguese Federation (FMN),

Spearheaded by Infront Moto Racing, in close collaboration with the FIM and national federations (FMNs), the MXGP Academy is a major driving force in developing grassroots talent. Since its launch in 2015, the Academy has remained committed to identifying and nurturing young riders worldwide through structured training and education programs. The MXGP Academy continues its mission to inspire, educate, and elevate the next generation of motocross talent from around the world.

The Format

The training weekend will welcome 15 riders, split between 10 athletes selected by the FMN and 5 potential participants from Yamaha’s bLU cRU initiative, when possible — ensuring a strong mix of local and emerging talent.

The structured program includes:

  • On-track coaching
  • Rider technique sessions
  • Fitness and mental preparation
  • Workshops for parents, coaches, and federation staff

The Trainers

Participants will be guided by a world-class coaching crew:

  • John van den Berk
  • Jan Postema
  • Martin van Genderen (Coordinator)
With the support of a local Portuguese MX trainer for translation and contextual expertise.

The aim? To build skill, boost confidence, and prepare these riders — whether beginners or emerging stars — for the journey ahead in competitive motocross.

A Global Mission

Since 2015, the MXGP Academy has travelled the globe helping young riders grow through professional-level guidance and resources. The initiative focuses not only on athletes, but on their entire support system — involving parents, local trainers, and federations in educational seminars and open discussions.

With challenges like attracting new youth to motocross and supporting the dreams of talented riders, the Academy is a cornerstone in the sport’s grassroots development.
