Lotte van Drunen Wins First WMX in Sardinia

Lotte van Drunen from the De Baets MX team has won the first race of the Women’s World Championship in Riola Sardo, Sardinia. Van Drunen won both motos and achieved a maximum score.

The preparation for the race was far from ideal. Lotte had fallen ill the week before the race and struggled to keep food down. Despite this, she started the weekend with great determination and managed to set the fastest lap time in the time practice on Saturday morning.

A good start in the first moto gave her a strong position. She built up her race steadily and attacked in the second half of the race. As she applied pressure, the leading rider fell, allowing Lotte to take over the lead. Van Drunen played it safe in the remainder of the race and won the moto.

In the second moto, van Drunen had another strong start and was able to join the lead pack. Just like in the first moto, she bided her time and started to push in the latter part of the race. With a few laps to go, she took the lead and won the second moto as well.

With a double moto victory, Lotte won the Grand Prix and is now the first leader in the World Championship.

Next weekend, Lotte will compete in the MX2 World Championship in Arco di Trento, Italy.

In the EMX125 class, Bertram Thorius managed to grab two points with a nineteenth-place finish.
