Julius Mikula will not compete in the final round of the MX2 season in Australia next weekend. The Czech rider from Osicka MX Team suffered shoulder and cervical spine injuries in a heavy crash during the second race of the MXGP of China. Following further medical examinations, it has been decided that competing in Australia would not be responsible.
After his crash in China, Mikula returned to the Czech Republic for further examinations by his doctors. These revealed that the injuries to his shoulder and cervical spine are more serious than initially thought.
After consulting with his doctors and family, it was therefore decided that Mikula will skip the season finale in Australia. This will give him the necessary time to continue recovering from his injuries.
As a result, his regular Grand Prix season comes to an early end. It remains uncertain whether Mikula will be able to line up behind the starting gate once more this year.
The Czech rider has been selected for the Motocross of Nations in Ernée, where he is due to represent his country alongside Petr Rathousky and Vaclav Kovar. According to the team, however, his participation in the MXoN remains uncertain at this stage.
Osicka MX Team will provide further updates as soon as there is more clarity regarding Mikula’s recovery and his potential participation in the Motocross of Nations.
