Ian Ampoorter will not return to action this season. The Belgian EMX250 rider has been dealing with health problems since the MXGP of the Netherlands in Arnhem. Medical examinations revealed that Ampoorter is suffering from long COVID. His full focus is now on his recovery.
During the event in Arnhem, Ampoorter already noticed that something was not right. The Belgian had hardly any energy and therefore decided not to take part in the second race after completing the opening moto.
Several medical examinations followed in the period afterwards. These revealed that Ampoorter is suffering from long COVID. As he is still recovering from the condition, his season has now come to an early end.
“The past month has not been easy. Since Arnhem, I have been dealing with health problems. I had absolutely no energy in my body there, which is why I decided not to ride the second moto. After undergoing examinations at the doctor, it turned out that I have long COVID.”
Ampoorter is now taking the time he needs to make a full recovery. Although he admits that the season has not gone as hoped, he is already looking ahead to next year.
“I am still recovering, which means my season is over. It has not been my best season, but next year we will come back and I want to show what I am capable of. I want to thank the team for always believing in me, even when things were not going well.”
Ampoorter also expressed his gratitude to FMX4Ever Racing and Becker Racing for their support throughout the season.
