Camden McLellan has won the opening MX2 moto at the MXGP of the Netherlands in Arnhem. For a long time, Sacha Coenen looked set to take the victory, but a late crash by the young Belgian changed the outcome of the race.
Coenen took the holeshot and immediately moved into the lead. The Belgian led for almost the entire moto and appeared to be on course for victory. However, in the closing stages, McLellan continued to close the gap and began to apply pressure.
With two laps remaining, things went wrong for Coenen. Under pressure from the approaching McLellan, he crashed and was forced to surrender the lead to the South African. Coenen quickly remounted and managed to secure second place.
McLellan made no mistakes from that point on and took the moto victory. Championship leader Guillem Farres crossed the finish line in third. Liam Everts made it two Belgians inside the top four with fourth place, while Valerio Lata completed the top five.
