Debutante Mayla Herrick Victorious, Lotte van Drunen Second in Opening AMA WMX Moto at High Point National

Mayla Herrick claimed victory in the opening moto of the third round of the AMA WMX Championship at High Point. Lotte van Drunen also delivered an impressive performance, with the Dutch rider crossing the finish line in second place.

Herrick missed the opening two rounds of the season due to the minimum age requirement of 17 years to compete in AMA Pro events. She reached that milestone today, making her eligible to compete and marking her AMA WMX debut.

The young American immediately grabbed the holeshot and took control of the race from the opening lap. Behind her, Van Drunen quickly secured second position. Herrick, who was also celebrating her birthday, opened up a gap of around four seconds during the first lap, forcing Van Drunen into chase mode.

Despite maintaining a strong pace and riding a consistent race, the two-time world champion was unable to completely close the gap. At the finish, Van Drunen had reduced the deficit to just 1.7 seconds, but it was not enough to deny Herrick the victory.

Lachlan Turner rode a lonely race in third place. Although she recorded the fastest lap times of the race, she was unable to bridge the gap to the leading duo and had to settle for third position.

Mikayla Nielsen and Charli Cannon completed the top five in fourth and fifth place respectively.
