The Monte Gordo Sand Race is about to start that this year, for the second time, it’s part of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) World Sand Races Championship, a competition that succeeds the Sand Races World Cup.
The event returns on November 28, 29, and 30, 2025, solidifying Monte Gordo as a leading destination for international competitions in this sport and promises to bring thousands of spectators, adrenaline, and thrilling races to the sands of Monte Gordo beach.
The Monte Gordo Sand Race, held on a six-kilometer track, is organized in partnership between the Vila Real de Santo António City Hall and the ACP. The race once again brings together the best riders in the modality, in an intense competition that attracts thousands of spectators and boosts the local economy and tourism. The Monte Gordo Sand Race begins on November 28th, with administrative and technical checks at Praça Marquês de Pombal in Vila Real de S. António.
The event will feature two races on Saturday: one for motorcycles lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes and another for ATVs lasting one hour. Two more races will also be held on Sunday: one for motorcycles lasting one hour and another for ATVs lasting 45 minutes.
This year, for the first time, there will be two competitions aimed at younger Yamaha motorcycle owners between the ages of 8 and 16.
In addition to the races, the Monte Gordo Sand Race will feature a diverse entertainment program offering activities for all ages. Admission to the event is free and will provide ideal conditions for the public to watch the races and enjoy a thrilling experience.
In the first edition, Belgian Yentel Martens (Honda) won both motorcycle races, as did Frenchman Keveen Rochereau in the quad category.
In the 2nd edition, the winners were the same. The best Portuguese riders were Luís Outeiro and Luís Fernandes, respectively in motorcycles and quad bikes.
