Jeffrey Herlings made a strong statement in free practice at the MXGP of Turkey by setting the fastest lap time. Romain Febvre and Lucas Coenen were close behind. Tim Gajser posted the fourth-fastest time but suffered a heavy crash after a jump and immediately returned to the paddock.
Brent van Doninck secured ninth place to finish inside the top ten, while Glenn Coldenhoff, Jago Geerts, and Brian Bogers recorded the 15th, 16th, and 17th fastest times, respectively.
In the MX2 class, Sacha Coenen topped the timesheets ahead of Kay de Wolf and Simon Laengenfelder. Liam Everts placed fourth, just ahead of Guillem Farres. Rick Elzinga and Cas Valk finished 10th and 11th, while Jens Walvoort ended the session in 13th. Kay Karssemakers rounded out the Dutch contingent with the 15th-fastest time.
