Valentin Guillod had an unfortunate crash this past weekend during the Grand Prix of Italy, in which he took a hard hit to the head. Guillod was discharged from the hospital this morning and successfully passed all concussion tests.
In the crash, he also sustained a fracture of the L4 apophysis in his lower back. The L4 apophysis refers to a bony projection (usually the spinous or transverse process) of the fourth lumbar vertebra (L4). A fracture in this area can be painful and may affect movement or nerves, depending on the severity. However, this is not considered a serious injury, and if everything continues to progress well, he is expected to compete in his home Grand Prix this coming weekend.
