Former Australian MX1 Champion Todd Waters has announced his retirement from professional motocross following the final round of the Penrite ProMX Championship. The 35-year-old Australian brings the curtain down on a career spanning two decades.
Waters made his professional debut as a teenager in 2009 and immediately claimed victory in the MX1 class. He finished runner-up in the Australian MX Championship in both 2012 and 2013 before moving to the FIM MXGP World Championship for two seasons. His strongest international campaign came in 2015, when he finished ninth in the final MXGP standings and secured the only MXGP podium of his career with a third-place finish at the Grand Prix of Italy in Maggiora.
Waters also represented Australia four times at the Motocross of Nations. His best result came in 2013, when he and teammates Brett Metcalfe and Dean Ferris finished fourth overall. After returning to Australia, he finally captured the Australian MX1 title in 2019.
In recent years, Waters combined racing with his roles as a team owner and entrepreneur. He founded the Raceline Husqvarna TDUB Racing Team while also expanding several business ventures and a junior rider development program. According to Waters, the time has now come to devote his full attention to those projects.
“For me, the time is right. After twenty years of professional racing, 2026 is the right moment to step away. Riding a motorcycle is the only place where I can completely switch off, but I can no longer take the same risks I used to. I have different priorities now, including my race teams, clothing brand and various business opportunities. It’s emotional because racing has been my life for so many years, but my time has come.”
Alongside his motocross career, Waters also demonstrated his versatility in enduro racing. In 2022, he finished runner-up in the Australian E2 Championship, competed in the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE), and recorded impressive results in events including the Hattah Desert Race and the Australian 4-Day Enduro.
The future of the Raceline Husqvarna TDUB Racing Team has yet to be announced.
