Hunter Lawrence won the opening moto of the AMA Pro Motocross 450 class at Southwick. Lawrence capitalized on a crash by race leader Jett Lawrence and never relinquished the lead, taking the victory ahead of Jett Lawrence and Haiden Deegan. Jorge Prado finished fourth, 40 seconds behind Lawrence, with Garrett Marchbanks rounding out the top five. Roan van de Moosdijk delivered an outstanding ride to finish seventh.
Lucas Coenen crashed at the start but charged back through the field at an impressive pace. A few laps after passing Prado, he suffered a heavy crash on a jump and was forced to retire from the race. Coenen was able to walk back to the paddock under his own power, but he took a significant hit in the incident.
