Season Over for Scott Smulders Following Serious Injury

There is unfortunate news for Scott Smulders, who has confirmed that his 2026 season has come to an early end following the injuries sustained in his recent crash.

After spending nearly a week in the hospital, Smulders was discharged last Saturday. Further examinations by specialists this week were expected to provide more clarity on his recovery timeline.

While there was some positive news regarding several of his injuries, the condition of his spleen proved to be far more serious than initially hoped.

“After almost a week in the hospital, I got cleared on Saturday. We didn’t really know where I was at, so I saw some specialists yesterday. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the news we were hoping for.

My hand, back and kidney should be ready to go again in four to six weeks, but my spleen is in a very critical condition. This means I will be out for the rest of the season.”

The news is a major setback for Smulders, who was hoping to return to action later this year. However, the Dutch rider is already focused on making a full recovery and returning stronger in 2027.

“I’m really bummed about it, but I’m already motivated to come back in 2027 with the best people around me. A huge thank you to my team, trainers, family and everyone else who has supported me through this. See you soon at the track!”

For now, Smulders will focus entirely on his rehabilitation with the goal of returning to racing in 2027.
