A dramatic race day in the Dolomites saw Kay de Wolf take a breakthrough career-first MXGP holeshot and fight for 4th overall, while Liam Everts recovered into the top-10 overall after bar-to-bar batt
Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing showed strong pace and clear progress at round five of the 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship at the MXGP of Trentino, taking valuable points from a demanding weekend at the spectacular Crossodromo Ciclamino in Pietramurata. Kay de Wolf secured fourth overall in MXGP after leading race two, while Liam Everts delivered a hard-fought seventh overall in MX2 despite a setback while running inside the top three.
Set in the shadow of the Dolomite mountains, the tight and technical Ciclamino circuit once again delivered a proper Grand Prix test. Heavy rain before the opening MX2 race added another layer of difficulty, although conditions improved as the day went on.
Everts carried solid speed into Sunday after qualifying fifth. In race one, he rode a calm and controlled moto, holding fourth throughout and briefly setting the fastest lap as he closed on the podium fight. With strong pace and no mistakes, he brought his Husqvarna home in fourth.
Moto two told a different story. A strong start saw him move into third, but an early mistake resulted in a crash that dropped him to the back of the field. From there, it was all about recovery. Everts pushed back through the pack to ninth, despite a small late tangle with a backmarker, securing seventh overall with a 4-9 scorecard. He now sits fourth in the MX2 standings.
In MXGP, de Wolf continued to build momentum. After qualifying fourth, his first race was compromised by a crash on lap two while battling inside the top ten. Despite the setback, he regrouped well and fought his way back to seventh by the finish.
Moto two, however, was a breakthrough moment. De Wolf launched out of the gate to claim the Fox Holeshot and led the opening laps, immediately showing he could run at the front in MXGP. Even after being shuffled back to third, he stayed in the fight throughout and eventually crossed the line in fourth, just under a second from the podium after a close final lap.
His 7-4 result secured fourth overall on the day and lifts him to eighth in the championship, now just two points from seventh.
With another demanding weekend in the books, Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing leaves Trentino with positives to build on – particularly de Wolf’s front-running pace and Everts’ resilience in difficult circumstances.
With a month-long break now ahead to regroup, Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing will return to action at the MXGP of France in Lacapelle-Marival on May 23-24.
#74 – Kay de Wolf: “Overall, I think there are a lot of positives to take from Trentino. In the first race, the crash was frustrating because I felt good and I was right there in the fight, so to come back to seventh was important for the points. Then in the second one, getting the holeshot and leading those first laps in MXGP was a really nice feeling. It shows the speed is there and that we’re making progress every weekend. Of course, when you are that close to the front, you want more than fourth, but to be battling with those guys and stay in it until the end is something we can build on. I feel like I’m learning all the time in this class and this weekend gave me a lot of confidence.”
#26 – Liam Everts: “Yeah, I was feeling really good actually. Just crashing in moto two cost me quite a bit, and then I had another crash with a lapper, which was a bit unfortunate. But still, coming from last to ninth, the riding was outstanding in that second moto, so that was great. Moto one, I just struggled a little bit to find the groove, but overall I’m really happy with the mental state, the physical state, and even where the riding is at, especially without riding during the week. The pace was really good and I was feeling good. It’s just a shame we didn’t get the result, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. I’m actually happy these races are over now so I can fully recover from the injury and come back swinging in France.”
