Strong Start to 2026 Season for Moritz Ernecker

Moritz Ernecker of Norman KTM Racing has made an impressive start to the 2026 season. Ernecker won both motos of the Italian 125cc Championship opener in Alghero, making him the first championship leader of the year.

Heavy rainfall in the days leading up to the event left the sandy circuit in tough and demanding condition. Ernecker quickly found a good feeling on the track and set an excellent second-fastest time in timed practice, finishing just fractions behind the fastest rider.

There was misfortune for Ricardo Bauer, who crashed and injured his wrist. As a result, he was unable to take part in the remainder of the event.

Ernecker secured strong starts in both motos and quickly took control at the front of the field. He rode smoothly and consistently on the challenging circuit, steadily extending his advantage in both races. He claimed victory in the opening moto with a commanding 43-second margin and followed that up with another dominant win in the second moto, finishing more than 20 seconds clear of the competition.

With a perfect score from the weekend, Ernecker claimed the overall victory and now leads the championship standings. The second round of the championship will take place next weekend in Mantova.
