This Saturday the ‘AX Battle of Britain’ resumes at the iconic OVO Wembley Arena and as always, the stage is set for some genuine, passionate, bar to bar racing across the five Arenacross classes.
The 2025 ACU British Arenacross championship burst into life at Birmingham’s BP Pulse Arena on January 4th with the addition of the first AX World Tour qualifying round, which was won by Spain’s Jorge Zaragoza. This time out it will be an all British affair, as it will be for rounds 3 & 4 in Belfast and round 5 in Aberdeen where the fight to win the British AX pro title will no doubt rage on before it’s all decided at Manchester’s AO Arena on February 22nd and someone will be crowned. Manchester will also incorporate the second round of the Arenacross World Tour qualifiers and the likes of Zaragoza, Cedric Soubeyras, Thomas Ramette and co will return to add extra spice to the melting pot of top British talent as they all fight for a place at the World Tour Finals in Abu Dhabi.
Before then there’ll undoubtably be plenty of drama and excitement in the ACU British Arenacross title fight to keep fans on the edge of their seat. Current Arenacross champion, Stark Future Racing’s Jack Brunell, will be thinking of taking the gloves off and come out swinging haymakers after his championship defence didn’t get off to the start he wanted finishing fifth overall at the opener in Birmingham. Dean Wilson (Armor Vision / St.Blazey Honda) is the current points leader in the AX British championship after nailing down third on the night in the opening World Tour qualifying round, but as he was the leading British rider in the pack he therefore picked up maximum points in the British championship as it’s only open to U.K passport holders or riders racing in the ACU British motocross championship. It’s the first time Wilson has committed to racing a full championship in the U.K since he emigrated to Canada as kid and he’s keen to add the British and World Tour Arenacross titles to his impressive resume. As will Tommy Searle, especially after crashing out of the opening round final. The 2023 champion is racing the new Triumph 250 for the Dirt Store team and will be doing all he can to put in the mix and if his starts at Birmingham are anything to go by, he has a good chance on the tight Wembley circuit.
Another rider who will charged and ready to win will be Crendon / Tru 7 Honda Racing’s Conrad Mewse after he missed the first round with a shoulder injury he picked up just days before. He knows he has to play catch up and he’s been putting in the hours down in Spain to try and put himself back in contention. It’s a championship he’s hungry to add to his British motocross titles. Proving there’s still fight in the old dog, Adam Chatfield (the very first Arenacross champion back in 2013), nailed down a solid second place in the British championship at Birmingham on his S.Brigss Commercials Honda to get his 2025 quest for another title off to a solid start and looked good doing it. He definitely has the experience to be a contender again, not just for Wembley but for the championship. Eddie Wade took third with a strong and improved performance giving his Stark Future Racing team another podium but a first time visit to the box in AX for him.
With a strong field of other British riders consisting of Matt Bayliss, Joe Clayton, Ash Greedy, Steven Clarke, Elliot Banks Browne, Martin Barr, Tom Grimshaw, Taylor Hammal, Chris Bayliss, Ben Clayton, Jayden Ashwell, Jake Preston, Brad Todd, Bailey Johnson and Kyle McNicol round two of the ACU British Arenacross is set for more adrenaline induced drama this Saturday.
