A private team that regularly is battling with the factory teams is the Osicka MX team from the Czech Republic. The team has been around for many years and has been quietly built up to the level where they are now. Team owner Martin Osicka has been in love with the sport for almost twenty years and has already spent a lot of money, time and energy on it.
‘’My friends took me on track for the first time in 2006. They talked me into joining the training and even though I was able to finish barely one lap, I fell immediately in love. Shortly after this first experience, in year 2006, I knew I want to have motocross in my life, so I started to think about helping young, talented riders. I didn’t have any experiences, knowledge and neither sponsors, so from the beginning it was extremely difficult. It cost a lot of money and time to build the team from nothing and set it up to something, what works well,’’ Martin explains.
Martin is an ambitious man and wanted to grow quickly with his team. In addition, promising results were achieved and that made Martin hungry to do even better.
‘’The main goal from the start was to gain experience in general about how everything works. Therefore, we‘ve participated largely in races like the Czech Championships, ADAC MX Masters, EMX and supercross races in Europe. A turning point has occurred in 2010, when we’d participated in MXGP for the first time. Since then, we started to compete in MXGP more regularly.’’
This year, the team started with three riders. Marcel Stauffer, Tomas Kohut and Julius Mikula. Good results were regularly achieved, so Martin can look back on the season with satisfaction.
‘’I’m extremely satisfied. We’ve achieved quite a few incredible results, as for example Julius Mikula top 10 in MX2, Marcel Stauffer EMX2T title, Tomas Kohut scored MXGP points and several ADAC MX Masters podium places. In general, I rate this season highly positive, especially because all three riders were after some kind of injury, and yet we have reached remarkable successes.’’
It was only last November that Marcel Stauffer was in a serious incident and was left fighting for his life with a neck injury. It hasn’t even been a full year yet and the Austrian not only has returned to riding a bike but racing at a very high level.
‘’I can’t agree more. It’s unbelievable what Marcel went through last year and where it pushed him. The whole story is an enormous motivation for others and I’m glad that we continue in our cooperation in the upcoming season.’’
The team is already in full preparation for the 2025 season. Marcel Stauffer has extended his contract with the team and they have also signed the young Czech Vaclav Janout! Unfortunately Julius Mikula has left the team.
‘’In 2025 we do MXGP, EMX250, ADAC MX Masters and Youngster Cup – that’s the plan for next year. Our aim is top 10 positions in MXGP and the EMX title. Further titles in MX Masters and to be a top team among private teams. From point of logistics and finance it’s demanding but at the same time it’s a great experience for our riders, to race with worldwide competition.’’
A lot of things happen in a motocross season. A team has ups and downs, but in general, it’s enjoying to race on the highest level in motocross.
‘’The race I enjoyed the most was probably Spain (Lugo), which was very challenging for our youngest rider Julius Mikula. In qualification and during the first race he fought his way through to P15. In the second race, Julius had started in the top 5 and was riding inside of the top ten for a long time. He finished in 11th place, which is incredible and in proves how hard he tries and that he is real fighter. All this was happening in his first year in MX2 and I’m not even mentioning that he was riding on this track for the first time. Unfortunately Julius is leaving our team but it was great to work with him and I wish him all the best for the future. Of course I liked a lot the MXoN, where all our riders represented their home countries and Loket where we took the EMX2-T title.’’
The Osicka MX team is a team that we will definitely be hearing more from and that is not yet finished at the highest level in motocross. If you want to know more about the team, visit them on the following channels:
