Jeffrey Herlings has won the opening moto of the MXGP class in Lombok. Tim Gajser was leading for most of the race but in the closing stages Herlings started to put the pressure on Gajser. Despite a mistake where he ran out of the track he managed to pass Gajser and won the moto. Immediately after the pass, Gajser crashed and gave Herlings a lot of breathing space. Gajser held on to second and Calvin Vlaanderen managed to pass Jorge Prado in the closing stages of the race to finish in third. Prado came home in fourth in front of Jeremy Seewer.
