Jorge Prado has won the first moto of the German Grand Prix. Prado dominated the race and won with a safe lead. Jeffrey Herlings rode strongly and managed to come back to second place after a mediocre start. Tim Gajser came third in front of Calvin Vlaanderen. Vlaanderen rode a great race and was on its way to finishing in the top three until a crash in the closing stages threw a spanner in the works. Pauls Jonass finished fifth ahead of Glenn Coldenhoff, who took the holeshot and rode in the leading group for a long time.
Romain Febvre gave up in the first heat with a sore thumb and lost many points in the battle for the title.
