Letter from the FIM President

We will be hosting the FIM Sustainability Week for the third time this June. This event not only coincides with the United Nations’ International Environment Day, but also signifies an important landmark in our Federation’s season.

This year, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) celebrates 120 years as a sports federation, which is a historic milestone. It is not an easy feat to reach this long-standing legacy, though it is even more impressive that the FIM is the first International Sports Federation with a programme that has enabled the sustainability of our sport for the last thirty-two years. Therefore, this marks a significant achievement in the history of the FIM.

Since its inception, our Ride Green programme has managed to define sustainable motorcycling, creating the first Environmental Code, which is now part of the DNA of our competitions. We have a robust and up-to-date educational programme with which we have trained hundreds of Sustainability Stewards who guarantee that our events are aligned and regulated by our Environmental Code and moreover can participate in our flagship programme KiSS.

Our sports stars, the Sustainability Ambassadors, work alongside us to raise awareness of sustainability issues among our family and fan base. The development of women in our sport and other areas of our community is also proactive and sustainability also offers a good opportunity to incorporate more women in motorcycling.

Both in motorcycling sport and in tourism and mobility, we are embedding sustainability by developing fundamental issues such as education for our community, energy transition, noise reduction, climate change, responsible tourism, sustainable mobility, and all this aligned with our Sustainable Development Goals, among others.

We are a testing platform for future mobility solutions. We are working alongside the industry to introduce more sustainable fuels and electric mobility technology that will benefit end users. We are committed to supporting the industry in developing products that contribute to slowing down the climate crisis, and we take pride in our contribution to a sustainable future.

Currently, our promoters are investing in sustainability and carbon neutrality strategies, and we increasingly realise the importance of this issue in all the stakeholders of our great family.

We are aware that our sponsors are increasingly mindful of the importance of sponsoring responsible products aligned with their strategies. That is why we must offer safe, quality, and sustainable championships that help improve their brands.

We also have many fans concerned about current issues who are looking for conscious and committed entertainment.

We can give even more and join the generation of restoration. That is why we are working more on biodiversity, and from here, I call on our entire family to be part of the restoration of nature. Our sport needs and loves nature and we want to be part of the solution. From responsible practice to serving as promoters of biodiversity in our circuits and areas of influence.

With these reflections, I want to invite you to join the actions for the planet and be part of this celebration. As a great community, we will celebrate sustainable living and sport during the FIM Sustainability Week, which will take place from 1-9 June.

With the theme of World Environment Day 2024 #generationrestoration, we wish you a great summer and a great season of sustainability.
