Lotte van Drunen of the De Baets MX team has won the third race of the Women’s World Championship in Galicia. Van Drunen finished second and first in the heats and took her second Grand Prix victory of the season.
After being fastest in time training, van Drunen managed to finish second in the first heat. She had wheelspin at the start, which meant she only came through the first corner in seventh place. During the race she worked her way up to second place and put pressure on Courtney Duncan, who was leading. Duncan was riding the perfect lines, so Van Drunen found nowhere to pass her and finished second.
In the second moto she started better and after a number of quick overtaking maneuvers she worked her way up into second place. She started to put the pressure on the leading lady and this time she managed to get past her in the closing stages of the race. Lotte kept the pace tight and rode to the heat victory.
With a 2-1 in the heats, Lotte won the day’s classification and thus consolidated her leading position in the championship.
Dex Kooiker rode a strong first moto in the EMX125 class. Kooiker managed to get the holeshot and was riding around fifth place for a long time. He eventually finished ninth and achieved his best moto result of the season. Things went wrong in the second moto and after a crash in the beginning, Kooiker was unable to score.
It wasn’t Benoit Paturel’s weekend. The Frenchman could not find his rhythm on the circuit and only managed to score in the first moto with a nineteenth place.
This weekend the world championship will continue in St. Jean d’Angely, France.
