Thibault Benistant of Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing MX2 won both motos of the second round of the Dutch Masters of Motocross in Oldebroek on Monday.
The race in Oldebroek was well attended and many thousands of people lined the circuit. Thibault Benistant made a guest appearance in this race and felt very much at home on the track. Due to the large turnout in the 250 class, training was done in two groups. Benistant set the second fastest time and his teammate Rick Elzinga finished fifth.
In the first moto, both riders managed to get a good start. Benistant took the lead and controlled the race from then on. Riding smoothly, he went around the track and managed to control the moto. Elzinga came out of the first lap in third place and managed to stay in this position throughout the race. Because his main protagonist for the title finished fourth, he made up two points in the battle for the title.
Benistant also performed very well in the second moto. He quickly took the lead and extended his lead throughout the race. Benistant won both motos and this gave him the day’s victory. Elzinga also fought well in the leading group. He was in the lead for a while but then battled for the top three throughout the race. He was in the lead in the beginning but then battled for the top three throughout the race. For a moment he fell back to fourth place, but Elzinga managed to move up one place in the final phase and finished third.
With two third-place finishes in the motos, he also finished third in the day’s classification. In the standings for the Dutch Masters of Motocross, Elzinga remains in second place and is four points behind the leader. This weekend, the third round of the MX2 World Championship is scheduled for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 in Sardinia.
