Yamaha Factory Racing announced a new title sponsor at the beginning of this year, Knich, but things have seemingly gone sideways. The Japanese manufacturer released a short and sweet statement earlier today, which simply mentions that the two have parted ways. Most importantly, however, it states that Yamaha terminated the contract.
“It is with great disappointment that Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A, has terminated Knich’s sponsorship agreement with Yamaha Factory Racing, effective immediately,” the statement read. “The announcement was made by Keith McCarty, Motorsports Racing Division Manager for Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A.” It seems that the team will simply be referred to as Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing from this point on.
Yamaha will field just one rider in the premier division in Tampa this weekend, following the injury that Justin Barcia sustained on Saturday. Barcia had surgery on his hand earlier this week. A timeline has not been placed on his recovery just yet, however, so it remains to be seen when he’ll return. Cooper Webb, the other rider on the team, currently sits eleventh in the standings.
