RJ Hampshire has done incredibly well to compete at each round of 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross up until this point, as he’s limped through with multiple niggling injuries. A hand injury that was sustained at the penultimate round of the series, Thunder Valley, will rule him out of the finale in Southern California. Hampshire picked up a couple of broken bones, but should not need surgery. The news was confirmed via the social media statement below.
“Disappointing way to end my season. Hit the ground hard the past couple weekends and today finished it off. It’s a pain riding injured and always seems to lead to more. Have a couple broken bones in my right hand but everything is in place so surgery shouldn’t be needed. My body needs a few weeks to recover. Bummed for my @RockstarHusky team, but we have a lot more to look forward to.“
RJ Hampshire is currently seventh in the 250MX championship standings, but will not drop any further down by missing Pala this weekend. It is mathematically impossible for any of the riders behind to gain the ground needed to steal the position. Hampshire will return to Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing in 2021.
