Surgery for Arnaud Tonus

Another star bites the dust.

Published

Following further evaluation earlier this week, it has become apparent that Arnaud Tonus will miss the first part of the FIM Motocross World Championship. A dislocated shoulder, which was sustained at LaCapelle Marival, was surgically repaired in Switzerland on Tuesday.

It’s really disappointing to start the season with a big injury like this,” Arnaud Tonus said in a statement from Yamaha. “I did a lot of work in the winter, in the gym and with my diet, to be 100% ready for this season and I felt great on the bike. Now, I need to change my goals and recover in the best way possible. I am confident with the doctors and people I have around me here in Geneva, and I am sure that when I come back I will be strong and ready to show what I can do.

The operation went really well. They have fixed his shoulder 100%, so that’s really positive,” Louis Vosters, the team manager at Wilvo Yamaha MXGP, mentioned. “The doctors in Switzerland are really professional, they are world-class and so I have confidence in their treatment for Arnaud. I spoke to Arnaud yesterday and he was positive about the way the doctors in Switzerland are working. That is really good. Now it’s time to move forward. I know it won’t be an easy road and it will take some time. It’s of course really disappointing for him and for us at Wilvo Yamaha MXGP, but we understand that this is part of the sport and we will support Arnaud all the way.

Wilvo Yamaha MXGP will start the season with two riders, Shaun Simpson and Jeremy Seewer, beneath their awning. A replacement rider will not be drafted in whilst Arnaud Tonus recovers. Speaking of which, it is currently unknown when he will be able to return.

He underwent surgery on Thursday and looks set to miss the start of the MX2 World Championship on March 10 in Argentina – as per Motocrossplanet via Het Belang Van Limburg.

Having impressed last season on his way to winning three GPs and finishing fourth in the title standings, this is a huge blow for the MX2 title contender. We wish him all the best for his recovery.
