The Northern Ireland-based JAR Honda team is excited to announce that Lewis Tombs will join the team for 2013 alongside Wayne Garrett. JAR Honda, the brainchild of World Superbike star Jonathan Rea, will again compete in the Maxxis British Championship, Red Bull Pro Nationals and selected Irish Championship races.
After securing the Ulster Championship in 2012, the team aim to take a strong stance in the British Motocross scene and hope to have a successful campaign in all championships. With backing directly from Honda Motor Europe, the team are equipped with the exciting new CRF450R and race-proven CRF250R.
21-year-old Tombs will compete in the hotly contested MX2 class, while Garrett remains in the MX1 class for all championships. With a busy schedule planned, the team are now preparing their new race bikes before testing starts in early January in Spain and then heading back to the United Kingdom to start the 2013 season.
Lewis Tombs – MX2
“I am really excited. For 2013, Jonathan has given me a great opportunity and I hope I can repay him with good results in the Maxxis and Red Bull championships. I am pleased to stay on a Honda as we have the bike working well and I hope 2013 is a good year for the team.”
Wayne Garrett – MX1
“I am really looking forward to 2013 and working again with the whole JAR Honda team. This off season we have a lot of testing planned in Europe to prepare with the new CRF450R and we hope to reap the benefits of that early in the season. The guys got the new bike quite early and my mechanic Kenny has been working hard to get things ready for testing. Jonathan’s passion and commitment to motocross is like no other and with this I know I have the best team around me for the new season.”
Jonathan Rea – Team manager
“I am really excited to announce our plans for 2013 and with Lewis joining the team we are confident that he can show his full potential. I have followed his progress for a long time and he is an exciting young to have under our awning. Wayne remains with us for another year and after securing the Ulster Championship last year, he is more than motivated to make 2013 even better. I would like to thank Honda and all our team partners for their continued support and all the guys behind the scenes who work tirelessly to make this all possible.”
