There has been an air of mystery surrounding the JWR Yamaha Racing squad this off-season, as very few updates have filtered through. Information has started to come to light now, however, as they were on Youthstream’s list of officially approved teams with Anton Gole as their premier-class rider. Although he is the only guy listed currently, the team is expected to sign more riders in the coming weeks.
It is no surprise that Johan Westermark has chosen to retain Gole’s services, as he was a revelation in his first year on the YZ450F. Gole was twenty-sixth in the final championship standings with a season-best finish of thirteenth. Kevin Strijbos left the team before the 2019 Motocross of Nations and will race on an RM-Z450 as a privateer in the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship. Vsevolod Brylyakov, the third rider on the team this year, currently has no deal.
It has also become official that JWR will no longer be a Yamaha team in 2020 – their departure from bLU cRU was announced via the following press release. The team’s new manufacturer is expected to be announced on Christmas Eve.
JWR Racing and Johan Westermark would like to thank Yamaha for their support in 2019. JWR and Yamaha have shared some great moments during the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship and learnt a lot about the MXGP series together.
We are very proud of what we have achieved as a new team in our first year in MXGP, including some top ten rides. It was great to be so welcomed by the riders, teams and Youthstream in the paddock. We would like to take the opportunity to thank Yamaha Europe, Torsten Lentink, Yamaha Scandinavia and Magnus Johansson for all their help during 2019.
We wish Yamaha the very best in 2020.
