Spain announce Motocross of Nations team, Jorge Prado scheduled to lead team to RedBud.
Team Spain has been announced for the 2022 Monster Energy Motocross of Nations on September 24/25. Jorge Prado (MXGP), Guillem Farres (MX2) and Rubén Fernández (Open) will represent the country at RedBud. There is a reason to be sceptical about this team, as Prado confirmed exclusively to MX Vice that he may not make the trip. For now though, he is scheduled to represent his nation for the first time since 2019.

Guillem Farres is a name that not many would recognise, although he is more than capable of delivering a good haul of points in the MX2 division. Farres has completed a handful of wildcard appearances in MX2 in the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship with success. Completing three events in succession in Spain, France and Germany, Farres landed in the top ten in two of the motos (with two tenth-place finishes).
Finally, Ruben Fernandez will fill the Open berth and was a shoo-in for the spot from the offset. Fernandez is in a rough spot currently, as he is trying to recover from the concussion that he suffered in Czechia. Fernandez has not returned to the top ten since that hit to the head, but he has plenty of time to rebuild and find his feet. Much like Farres, he has not represented Team Spain before.
Spain was ranked in sixteenth at the 2021 Monster Energy Motocross of Nations, as they fielded a subpar team. Jose Butron, Yago Martinez and Ander Valentin represented the nation at the mid-season edition of the historic race. Finishing fourth at the 2022 Motocross of Nations is the brightest moment in Spanish history.
