Statement: Jamie McCanney

There are a handful of reasons for motocross fans to tune into the results from the 2021 Dakar Rally. There are a lot of former professional racers, like Rui Goncalves and Andrew Short, taking part, as well as recognisable names like David Knight and Jamie McCanney. The latter is out of the event now though, following the fifth stage in Saudi Arabia today. McCanney released the statement below – Yamaha has not yet commented on the technical issue that was encountered.

“Sadly my Dakar 2021 is over seven days earlier than expected due to a technical issue. Thank you to everyone who supported me over these past five days and if you know me you know I would have done anything to stay in the race but sometimes it’s out of your control and today was one of those days. Thanks to all the team for their hard work and let’s keep pushing!”

McCanney was nineteenth in the overall classification prior to the fifth stage toward. Monster Energy Yamaha have Ross Branch, Adrien Van Beveren and Franco Caimi in the current Dakar Rally still. The fifth bLUcRU athlete, Andrew Short, withdrew in stage two.
