Top five for Apico LPE Kawasaki

The fourth round of the MX Nationals series saw the Apico LPE Kawasaki squad head to Pontrilas in Wales. Following heavy rain in the week leading up to the event, this left the track in a very wet and rough condition when the racing action started on Saturdaymorning.

Saturday started with the qualifying session and Gert Krestinov struggled slightly with the tough, rutty conditions and posted a time that would see him finish the session in 8th place.

As the day progressed the track began to dry out and produce more lines. When the gate dropped for the first race, Gert rounded the first corner outside the top 10 and had a lot of work to do. As the race progressed Gert pushed forward and worked his way up to 5th at the finish.

Overnight the track was graded and in much better condition ready for Sunday’s two races. Unfortunately Gert again struggled with his starts and was around the top 10 on the first lap. With the track producing more lines, Gert was able to push forward and get up to a solid 4th place.

The final race saw Gert make the best start of the weekend and quickly move inside the top 5. As the race progressed Gert moved forward and pushed his way into fourth before running out of time. Gert’s three Top 5 results were enough to give him 5th overall on the day and remain 5th in the points standings.

Gert Krestinov: This weekend was really tough for me, the long ruts and muddy conditions made it hard work and I took a while to get used to the track. Over the weekend I finished 5-4-4 and finished 5th overall, I was hoping to be on the podium but I tried my hardest with the tough conditions.
Steve James: Today has been a solid day for us. It could have been a lot worse but Gert managed to secure three solid results. Our main weakness this weekend was our starts, as a team we know that Gert can run at the front and challenge for race wins, but that’s not possible when we are going around the first corner in 10th. We need to work on this over the coming weeks and now look forward to the Pro National Festival at Weston next weekend.
