Round 3 of the SWOR’s Championship held at Morleigh mx track today provided a somewhat mixed bag of results, with some groups having different winners in each race, whilst others saw riders dominate in theirs.
The expert group witnessed in form rider No 10 Wayne Shimmel take all three race wins, extending his championship lead now by a considerable margin.
After a difficult start in race one , Shimmel was to find himself back in 6th place with several top riders to pass.
Undeterred by this, Shimmel wound back the throttle and preceded to carve his way forward to take the lead in lap 6 finally passing a tiring Ben Butler before taking the victory.
Races 2 and 3 followed much the same format , but with Shimmel proving too much for the chasing group to handle, it was his day to take the ha-trick of wins.
In the Inter 14-17 group there was another fine display of riding to entertain the cheering crowd.
This time it was the turn of rider No 17 Dan Mundell again taking all three race wins. However with Mundell not listed for this years championship, it was rider No 24 Tim Moran who was to take maximum points through to round 4 with 3 solid second places closely followed by No 109 Ollie Harris claiming a 3rd , 4th and again a 3rd in race 3.
Another set of triple wins were to be enjoyed by young rider No 59 Jordan Veale in the Inter 9-13 group, and following the theme of three’s, rider No 42 Brent Harris was to take all the 2nd place positions and rider No 91 Troy Wheeler taking all three 3rd place spots.
Juniors 1, Juniors 2 and the Senior groups however were to provide the fans with a mixed bag of winners in their respective groups.
Juniors 1 saw No 12 Ben Morrison taking race win number 1 after some terrific battling with fellow riders Jack Wilson No 76 and No 26 Johnny Hesnan.
Race two belonged to the ever determined No 76 Jack Wilson and to finish off No 140 Jack Perkins winning race 3.
Juniors 2 had rider No 60 Graham Hookway claiming victory in race one with No 6 Jon Jones hot on his heels.
Race 2 saw rider No 126 Steve Folland taking the chequered flag again denying 2nd place rider Jones.
But it was race three where Jones finally claimed race victory and also secured the points to win overall on the day.
The Senior group closing out today‘s racing had No 244 James Teenan take victory in race 1.
No 666 Ben Bowden was to find form in race two finding himself with a considerable lead throughout before taking the chequered flag, and finally finishing off in race 3 was rider No 441 Tom Atwell taking the last victory from today’s racing.
Pheonix Tools moto park (formerly Whiteway Barton) in Kingsteignton plays host to the next Championship round next Sunday and also hosts the annual SWOR Team event on the Bank Holiday Monday.
Practise starts at 9.30am and racing starting at approximately 10.30am on both days .
The venue provides ample spectator parking and hot food and beverages are available on site.
