Thanks to an impressive lineup of MXGP contenders, Russia may emerge as unlikely podium candidates at this year’s Motocross of Nations. The biggest stumbling block for the squad will be that two of their riders, Aleksandr Tonkov (MXGP) and Vsevolod Brylyakov (MX2), are currently injured.
It remains to be seen when Tonkov will get back on a bike, but Brylyakov now has the plaster off of his ankle and is working towards his return. Tonkov last rode a bigger bike at the Motocross of Nations in 2014 and shocked the world whilst en route to a fifth and sixth in his two motos.
Evgeny Bobryshev, who currently sits fifth in the MXGP standings, will fill the Open berth for the team.
