Race Report, Dan Thornhill – Round 4 of the Phoenix Tools at Torrington

This weekend we took a 2 hour trip down south to Round 4 of the Phoenix Tools South West Premier Championship at Torrington.  With the weather looking good the organizers had prepared the track with plenty of water which made the track develop very rough and hard for the riders.

Enjoying the track in qualifying but struggling to complete one solid fast lap I qualified in 16th position.

The first Moto arrived and with a very long uphill start I struggled with a start but getting the first laps in hard I found myself just outside the top 10.  Three laps into the race I fell with some hard luck as my front brake lever fell loose on the handle bar leaving me with just the rear brake for the rest of the race ending up 15th at the flag!

Moto 2 was a similar story getting swallowed up on the uphill drag by the 450s; I tried my best to pull back through the field managing one better for 14th at the flag and the first MX2 over the line.

Moto 3 started slightly better gating just outside the top 15 I managed to pick some good lines and with the rough track working in my favour; I found myself up to 8th in the race having good battles had a top 10 in the bag with less than three corners to go one of the rough uphill caught me out and I got off quite hard resulting in my handle bars snapping off the clamps forcing me to not complete the lap but still ending up in 15th position at the end.

After a hard days racing I am happy to walk away safe in one piece taking the positives and moving on to the next round!

Big thank you to everybody for their continued support!
