Prado maintains his momentum heading into Arnhem

Read what the ultra-consistent Jorge Prado had to say about his weekend at the MXGP of Sweden from the post-race press conference in a round where the Red Bull GASGAS Factory maestro won two of the three points scoring races and maintained his 98 point lead atop the standings. Question: Jorge, another race win. Now, there’s just four GPs to go so are you satisfied with your weekend?

Jorge Prado: I’m super happy with my riding. I think every time I went out I had a very good rhythm already from yesterday. So starting from there I always felt great on track and with the bike. Yesterday I won the quali race, today I won the first moto and I think all the riders agreed like what Romain said (about the track). I don’t know. If you start sixth you stay sixth, that’s what happened to me pretty much in the second moto.

I couldn’t find any place to make a pass, the track was very tight. I just couldn’t pass, there was not a clean line. But to be honest, the track conditions were quite good for all the rain we had in the lead up. It could have been better, so I mean working a little bit more and better on the track, then maybe we could have better racing. And also so we can have a bit more fun and we can battle between each other. But going back to my race, yes, super happy with my riding. And it was disappointing I couldn’t finish off the weekend with a win after going P1 in every session, but not the second moto – so thanks, Jeremy (laughs).

Q: Did you consider using the scoop tire in the second moto with the rain?

JP: I mean, right now the scoop we can ride pretty much everywhere, but like the track progression was not that great. Actually, I think some of the bumps were still there from yesterday when it was super dry and it was super hard underneath and with the rain it was super slippery. But yeah, you’re right, I mean, some riders prefer scoops, others not. I think everybody has their own ideas in their mind.

Q: Again, a positive weekend, two victories out of three and yesterday dominating?

JP: Yeah, like you said two out of three victories, I’m quite happy and trying to ride like this in the second moto with this type of mud and stuff, in the past, I struggle a little bit, but it seems like this year is flowing and I can even be very good also in this condition. So I’m very proud of my riding also physically, you know, I felt very good.

Q: We move on to Arnhem next weekend. Are you excited about that?

JP: Yeah, it’s a new track for everyone to come there. But most of the riders have been already riding there a few times. And yeah, it’s a new track, and obviously we’re going back to sand so it’ll be different.

JK Racing Yamaha will head into the 2024 season with a full line-up to compete in the MXGP World Championship as well as the EMX125 class with a combination of experienced riders and promising newcomers.
