Pinpoint: Manager Help

Fantasy MX Manager tips and insight.

Published

on

There has been a huge shift in momentum in the FIM Motocross World Championship, now that Jeffrey Herlings will watch the Grand Prix of Lombardia from the sidelines, and that means that the Fantasy MX Manager game has been shaken up as well. More than a thousand players need to desperately make a transfer ahead of the eleventh round of the current campaign.

Losing Jeffrey Herlings is a major hit to a Fantasy MX Manager squad, but there may be an easy solution. Although Antonio Cairoli is fighting a knee injury that stopped him from pushing until the end of the second moto at the Grand Prix of France, he is now the heavy favourite to win both motos this weekend. It is an easy transaction to make too, seeing as those two title contenders cost exactly the same figure, so one can just make a clean swap for Cairoli and then draft Herlings back in as soon as possible. It is likely that Cairoli will win both motos, claim at least one holeshot and set the fastest lap this weekend.

Another important thing for a Fantasy MX Manager player to consider is that Julien Lieber, who is on a couple of hundred teams, is also out injured. Lieber crashed at the Grand Prix of Great Britain and initially thought that he was fine, aside from being battered and bruised, but actually broke his scapula. The goal is for him to return at the Grand Prix of Indonesia, which is just two weeks away, but those who have signed him up need to find a replacement for round eleven. There are not too many great riders at two hundred thousand euros in the premier class; Max Nagl, Valentin Guillod and Alessandro Lupino are all interesting at that price though.

There is another rider in the premier class who costs two hundred thousand euros, but he is a true wildcard. Todd Waters, a fill-in rider on the HRC squad, will return to racing this weekend and could eventually turn out to be good value. It is unlikely that he will pay off immediately though, because he only got back onto the bike last week. It has been reported that he has ridden every day since that point and not felt any pain, which is great news, but it would still be a gamble to pick him at this point. A circuit like Indonesia would suit him well though and may provide him with an opportunity to shine.

Another option, if you have the budget available, is to spend a little more and replace Julien Lieber with a rider who costs three hundred thousand euros. Glenn Coldenhoff and Jeremy Seewer cost that much and have been remarkably consistent in the premier class thus far. There appears to be more upside with Coldenhoff, who hovers around the top five and could even break onto the podium at one of the upcoming rounds, but Seewer seems to record a solid amount of points at each event as well. There are plenty of ways to switch things around in order to ensure that your Fantasy MX Manager team is a success!

The winning team at the Grand Prix of France consisted of Jeffrey Herlings, Jago Geerts, Conrad Mewse, KTM and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing. It would not be surprising at all to see a similar squad win at the Grand Prix of Lombardia. Replace Jeffrey Herlings with Antonio Cairoli, who should take over and score maximum points in the power-sapping sand, then Jago Geerts and Conrad Mewse should perform very well in the conditions as well. It is worth bearing in mind if you can create a team close to that.

Once again, our resident stats guru, Paul Pearcy, provides a breakdown of the MX2 class going into Intu Xanadu. Famed more for its access to a shopping mall and McDonald’s than actual passing, the MX2 contenders will be looking to make their mark. Last year, Simon Laengenfelder reigned supreme and was unstoppable on Sunday, with no rider able to match his pace. If you were a betting man, who would be your winner?
