Paulin back on the podium in Matterley Basin

As the 2012 FIM Motocross championship hits the final stretch,  Kawasaki Racing Team’s, Gautier Paulin has regained his confidence tosecure 3rd spot at the British MX GP held in Matterly Basin overthe weekend.

A jam packed, four-day festival of professional and amateur racing along with perfect weather conditions set the seen for round 13 of the 16 round series and after qualifying  5th in Saturday’s 20 minqualification race , Paulin was set for the Sunday battle.

With  Cairoli grabbing the hole-shot, Paulin was just inside the top ten but quickly made some moves into 6thplace by the end ofthe opening lap.  He then set his sites on Belgian, Clement Desalle and fellow team-mate Xavier Boog to move into fourth.  With a string of consistent lap times, Paulin took a chunk out of the gap to De Dycker inthird but ran out of time to catch the big Belgian and settled for fourth place.

A slightly better start in moto 2 placed Paulin in the top 5 with Cairoli and Nagl out front.  By the half way point Paulin  took over third spot from Rui Goncalves and went on to match Nagl and Cairoli’s lap times till the end of the moto finishing in a strong 3rd place.

Gautier Paulin: “It’s great to be back on the podium, and I want to dedicate it to my team who remained strongly behind me even when I was not getting the results which we expected. My last podium was in Portugal and that was a long time ago – we have had some tough GPs but we found some solutions, even though it’s never easy to recover during the season. I’m having again fun on the bike, and a couple of good starts helped me to achieve this podium. The track this weekend was almost perfectand it was nice to race the same event as the young kids of the European series.”

Paulin has now minimized the points deficit to 3rd and 2nd in the championship and with 3 races to go, still has a realistic shot at becoming Vice World champion in his rookie season.  The demanding sand circuit  of Lierop is next on the calendar in a fortnight.
