Round 3 of the Phoenix Premier Motocross Championships took place at a new venue at Crediton Raceway. The meeting was dedicated to Si Higgins one of the members of Premier Mx Team who sadly lost his life in a freak accident whilst preparing a motocross track ready for a race meetings in the south west
The Track had a fair bit of rain the night befor but didn’t put off the riders once again making some great racing in what became a fast and narlly deep rutted natural motocross track
In the Expert Open Championship it was Shane Carless on the Oakleaf Kawasaki who went in to round 3 with a 4 points advantage over the Phoenix Tools Honda of Luke Hawkins, . Hawkins was to set the fastest time in qualifying, with Carless 3rd
John May who was to get the holeshot in the opening race with Carless in the top 10 on the first lap he soon got to grips with the track and some changes to the bike started to pay off as he was coming up through the pack ,Carless was to take 3rd behind watermen and Hawkins
In the second moto this time it was Luke Hill with the best start from Alba with Hawkins there in 3rd they soon had Carless breathing all over them . Hawkins and Carless were in a real hurry in this one and both found away pass Alba and Hill on lap 2 and were on a mission with Hawkins gradually pulling away mid race, but as the clock went down Carless dug in deep and was to close right up again and was all over Hawkins looking to get pass, but it wasn’t until the closing stages of the last lap that Carless made the pass through to take the win
In the last moto it was May with the holeshot , 2nd was Carless with Jackson Evans there in 3rd. May was in cruise mode at the front and was pulling away all the time and by the end of lap 2 he had a full 8 second lead and was still pulling away, but true grit and determination Carless was now closing in at a rapid rate and caught and passed May mid race and from there went on to take the win with Waterman taking 2nd and Hawkins eventually finishing 3rd.
