New Deal: Petar Petrov

Well, the news is certainly coming in thick and fast today. Petar Petrov, who will make his debut in the premier class at the Grand Prix of Patagonia-Argentina in March, will join Arminas Jasikonis beneath the Assomotor Honda awning. Petrov revealed the news on social media earlier today and completed the silly-season puzzle.

Happy to announce that I have signed with Assomotor Honda,” Petrov wrote on his personal account. “Looking forward to working with this [sic] guys and very excited to move to [the] MXGP class with the big boys. I must say 2017 has been a hard one, but I have learned a lot and looking forward to what this year will bring us,” Petrov previously wrote. “Thanks to everyone for the support and bring on the New Year.

The previous season was a testing campaign for Petar Petrov, who contested the FIM Motocross World Championship with support from Monster Energy KRT MX2. Thirty-fifth was the position that he eventually occupied after sustaining multiple injuries. Petrov damaged a ligament in his ankle before the season even started and was forced to withdraw immediately, but returned at the Grand Prix of Trentino. However, just three rounds later, he pulled out with an illness that sapped him of energy. Following that, he returned in Russia and then immediately damaged his shoulder and had to skip the remaining rounds.

Arminas Jasikonis will join him on the Italian team, as mentioned previously, and had his own health issues this season. The Lithuanian dislocated his hip in September, but is back on a bike and has spent some time testing with the squad. Petrov has also fully recovered and clocked many laps aboard his new steed. Assomotor Honda had Alessandro Lupino, who has moved onto a Gebben Van Venrooy Kawasaki, and Valentin Guillod, who now pilots a Standing Construct KTM, this year.
